Rubicon & Meeks Bay
Rubicon is an exclusive neighborhood on the lakeside and above the highway. Members of the private homeowner association have access to the finest HOA sand beaches on the Westshore of Tahoe. Beautiful golden sand, and turquoise water reminds of tropical setting rather than a mountain lake located at 6200 feet! Historical records say, “Originally a Native American trail connecting the Sacramento Valley and Lake Tahoe, the Rubicon Trail was re-discovered by European immigrants in the 1840s. By the 1890s, the trail had become an actual road (by the standards of the day) and was used to reach the Rubicon Mineral Springs Resort and Hotel.” Today that trail exists as one of the most challenging 4X4 trails in the West. Four by four enthusiasts come from all over the world to challenge that trail and “cross their Rubicon.” Meeks Bay is just north of Rubicon and features smaller Lakefront homes perched on slopes to the water with a few old Tahoe estates. At the head of Meeks Bay is Meeks Bay Resort with a golden sand beach open to the public. On the Lake Tahoe shore of Rubicon can be found huge estates dating back to land granted to builders of the Transcontinental Railroad. At the end of Rubicon Bay is D.L. Bliss state park which affords an opportunity for mere mortals without historic estates to experience the beautiful sand beach, massive granite boulders and turquoise waters of Rubicon Bay. There is usually a good inventory of homes for sale in Rubicon and Meeks Bay.
