Carnelian Bay & Agate Bay
Carnelian Bay an Agate Bay are found on the Northshore of Lake Tahoe mid way between Tahoe City and Kings Beach. In 1860, Carnelian Bay in North Lake Tahoe, was named for the semi-precious red and yellow stones peppering the shoreline. Carnelian Bay was a popular spot for boat racing and recreational boating in the 1930s and 1940s. In the 1930s, boat racing became the major attraction in Carnelian Bay and, in 1952, Sierra Boat Company opened and is still known today for its repair and maintenance of classic boats. Year-round, Carnelian Bay in North Lake Tahoe is the spot for big Mackinaw trout. The beaches are favorites with dogs, kayakers, SUPers and sunset seekers. Prized vacation rentals line the beach, for easy access to the North Shore’s 12 Lake Tahoe ski resorts.
